Film review- Anna Sainz

NOSEDIVE REVIEW

Black mirror is a science fiction series directed by Charlie Brooker. It mainly focuses on humanity's relationship to technology and its consequences. The series has five seasons, and each episode has a different story. The episode I will focus on is Nosedive, starring Bryce Dallas Howard.


The episode takes place in a world where people can rate each other for every interaction they have. The rating is important to be respected by others, so people with higher ratings are the most popular and respected ones. Laice is obsessed with her rating. She wants to move to a more luxurious house, but she needs a higher rating. When her popular childhood friend chooses her to be the maid of honour for her wedding, she sees it as an opportunity to raise her rating, but if she wasn't obsessed with her rating, she wouldn't have so much trouble getting to the wedding on time.


The most admirable thing for me in this episode is the special effects and the aesthetic. The range of colors used in the episode is limited only to pastel colors, what makes every scene look beautiful. The development of the storyline is great. The more you see, the more you get hooked.

I recommend not only this episode, but Black Mirror in general. If you are curious about technological development and its consequences nowadays, this series is for you.
