European and American children watch television for an average of three to four hours a day. I think that television can be a powerful influence in the development of a value system and in the formation of behavior. Unfortunately, a large part of current programming is violent. If children are excessively exposed to violence on television they tend to be more aggressive.
Sometimes, watching a single violent program can increase aggression. If children watch shows in which violence is very realistic, it is repeated frequently or does not receive punishment, they will try to imitate what they see. Children who have emotional, behavioral, learning, or impulse control problems may be more easily influenced by violence on TV which don’t think about this.
Nowadays, the impact of violence on television may be immediately apparent in the child's behavior or it may arise years later.
