Nosedive is the first episode of the third season of the science fiction anthology Black Mirror, which focuses on hypothetical situations that would happen, if we didn’t stop abusing technology.
This episode is set in a world where anyone can rate your personality out of five stars, from your friends to strangers you meet on the street.
The main character is starred by Bryce Dallas Howard as Lacie Pound, who is obsessed with being received well with a high rating. She lives with her brother Ryan (James Norton), who has a lower approval rating than her, and she is eager to move out. She learns that she will only be able to afford to live in an exclusive estate if she has a rating of 4,5 or above, and the best way to improve it, is to socialise with people in the higher circles of society. Her old friend Naomi (Alice Eve) contacts her and asks her to be her maid of honour, which Lacie obviously accepts. Lacie believes if she nails a perfect maid of honour speech, she will have a better rating.
At the airport, Lacie finds out that her original flight has been cancelled, and she needs 4.2 to get a seat on another. However, due to a fight with Ryan and several unfortunate encounters with strangers, her rating is lower. Lacie makes a scene and the security penalizes her by taking away a full point. Because of her low rating, Lacie can only rent an older car to drive to the wedding, which she cannot recharge when it runs out of power and Naomi tells her that she doesn’t want her in her wedding because of her rating. In the end, they take her to jail after she makes another scene on Naomi’s wedding.
What i like the best of this episode is how they portray all the different characters and seems so realistic but i think they should show more of another characters not just Lacie.
In conclusion i recommend this episode if you like science fiction and i think it holds the spectator’s attention until the end.
