Opinion Essay - Emma García

As some studies show, today children spend at least 4 hours a day in front of the television. This situation causes many children to learn through it.
On average, 23 violent scenes are broadcast every 30 minutes, and some studies show that the fact that children spend so much time facing the screen makes these children build their perspective of the world, creating a false view of reality. For this reason, if more violence is shown on the TV, more likely are children to accept violence as a way to solve their problems. Although it doesn't always happen, some children would imitate violent behaviors if they often see this type of scene in the TV or identify with certain characters, whether victims or aggressors. That does not indicate that violence on television is the only source of aggressiveness or violent behavior in those children, but that is certainly a contributing factor.
In conclusion, to prevent children from being exposed to violence on television, parents have to pay attention to the programs that children watch on television, but above all, it is necessary to explain to them that the violence they see on television is something negative and dangerous.
