Film Review - Maria Toro

Review of Black Mirror: Nosedive
Black Mirror is a Britain series created by Charlie Brooker. In the sequences there isn’t a storyline between the chapters, each episode is an own history, so the actors are neither the same ones. The genres of the series are science fiction, satire, psychological thriller and dystopia.
Nosedive, of the season 3, is about a girl, the main character, called Lacie Pound, starred by Bryce Dallas Howard. Her life depends of the social media, of what are other people going to think of her. She has a wedding of an old friend, and that’s the way of improving her social status, but first she has to arrive to the ceremony. A trailer is available in Netflix.
One of the most enjoyable things about the series is that it deals with the technology, the way we use it and how we depend on it. The series focuses on the situation of how society can be if digital evolution becomes extreme. In this way, Black Mirror make spectators think about it. Specifically in this chapter, the most interesting thing is the deep reflection of what are others going to think about us, and what are we capable of doing to give only impressions. Another thing I found awesome is the set design. It produces pleasure because of its colours and shapes.
The only fault I found is that the film doesn’t really hold the spectator’s attention during all the chapter because from my point of view, it’s too long and a bit repetitive. I would also have liked more dialogue because there are many scenes without talk and that makes people get bored. If I had been the star, I would have asked to rewrite the script.
It’s one of the best chapters of the complete series. I seriously recommend Nosedive and the whole thoughts that it’s naturally going to produce. See it with total tranquillity if you can, to interiorize more!
